Why most green noise streams go silent before morning

01

Your PC has to stay on

A home stream dies with every Windows update, power cut or Wi-Fi drop. SubSub plays your playlist from our servers, so your computer can sleep.

02

OBS and VPS babysitting

Renting a VPS, running OBS without a GPU, restarting a crashed encoder — that is a second job. Here you upload files and press start.

03

Copyright and monetization guesswork

Green noise sounds like it belongs to no one, yet tracks from other channels and apps still get claimed in Content ID, and hours of the same hum are exactly what YouTube's repetitive-content review looks for. Below we explain what is safe to stream and how noise channels actually earn.

HOW IT WORKS

Live in three steps, no software to install

1

Upload your files

Drop your audio and video into the SubSub media library, put them in order and turn on loop. Files live in our cloud, not on your computer.

2

Connect YouTube

Create a stream in YouTube Studio and paste its stream key into SubSub. The stream stays on your channel; SubSub only sends the video.

3

Press start

SubSub streams from our servers around the clock. Close the laptop — the stream keeps playing.

SETUP GUIDE

How to set up a green noise stream people keep on all night

What long-running green noise channels have in common — and how to get there with SubSub.

Long, soft, seamless tracks

Upload at least 2–3 hours of green noise rendered evenly from start to end, so the loop point stays inaudible. Centre it in the mid frequencies, around 500 Hz, the way listeners expect green noise to sound. SubSub loops the playlist automatically.

A calm visual, or a dark screen

A distant city at night, a misty forest or a near-black screen works best — many listeners turn the phone face down. Keep motion slow and the picture dark: bright, busy frames light up a bedroom and are hard to compress.

Comfortable, constant volume

Green noise should sit in the background, not fill the room. Keep the level moderate and perfectly steady, with no clipping or volume jumps. Export at 192 kbps or higher; 1080p video is plenty for the picture.

Noise you generated yourself

Green noise is easy to generate in any audio editor or DAW by filtering white noise around the mid frequencies, and noise you render yourself is yours. Do not rip tracks from other noise channels or sleep apps — they are often registered in Content ID even though the sound seems generic.

What you can stream

YouTube checks every stream with Content ID. Green noise feels generic, but tracks published by other channels, apps and sound libraries are registered there too, and a claimed track can cut your stream.

  • Noise you generated yourself in an audio editor or DAW
  • Sound libraries licensed for YouTube live and allowlisted for your channel
  • Not allowed: audio ripped from other channels' noise videos, sleep or focus apps, recordings of white noise machines, compilations
MONETIZATION

How a green noise stream earns

Once your channel is in the YouTube Partner Program:

  • Ads — turn on mid-roll breaks
  • Super Chat and memberships — from 500 subscribers
  • Your links — 10-hour green noise videos, sleep apps, Patreon

FAQ

Is a 24/7 green noise stream allowed on YouTube?

Yes. YouTube sets no maximum length for live streams, and noise streams stay live for months. The usual rules apply: a verified channel with no live streaming restrictions in the past 90 days, honest titles and thumbnails with no medical promises like "cures insomnia" or "stops tinnitus", and only audio you have rights to.

What is green noise?

Green noise concentrates its energy in the middle of the hearing range, around 500 Hz. It is often described as the sound of nature — a distant river or wind in the trees — and some hear it as the steady hum of a city far away. It is softer than white noise and lighter than brown noise.

Can I stream pre-recorded noise as a live stream?

Yes. SubSub sends your uploaded playlist to YouTube through a regular stream key, exactly like a streaming encoder. You do not need to be online, run OBS or keep a computer on during the broadcast.

Is green noise free of copyright?

Noise you generate yourself is yours. A green noise track someone else rendered and published is their recording, and many are registered in Content ID. A "no copyright" tag on a YouTube video is not a license. Generate your own, or use a library whose license covers YouTube live streaming.

Can I monetize a 24/7 green noise stream?

Yes, once your channel is in the YouTube Partner Program: ads, Super Chat, Super Stickers and memberships. YouTube can limit monetization for repetitive content, and plain noise is as repetitive as it gets, so give the channel its own look and publish regular videos alongside the stream.

How long should my green noise tracks be?

At least 2–3 hours in total. SubSub loops the playlist automatically, and long, evenly rendered files keep the loop point inaudible.

Do I need OBS, a VPS or a computer that stays on?

No. You upload files to SubSub once, and our servers send the stream to YouTube. Your computer can be off the whole time.

How much does a 24/7 stream cost?

You pay only for streaming time — $0.0087 per hour in base quality (720p, 30 fps). A full month nonstop is about $6.26. New accounts get $0.50 in free credits, about 57 hours on air, no credit card required.

Why can’t I go live right after setting up my channel?

YouTube can take up to 24 hours to enable live streaming the first time. Turn it on in YouTube Studio a day before you plan to launch.

Can I run several 24/7 streams at once?

Yes. Each stream runs on its own and is billed by its own streaming hours, so you can run different radios on different channels.

Does SubSub check my music for copyright?

No. SubSub does not scan your files. YouTube checks every live stream with Content ID on its side: if it finds a track you do not own, YouTube can mute or stop the stream and strike your channel. Use only music you own or license.

Will YouTube save my 24/7 stream as a video?

Streams up to 12 hours are archived on your channel. Longer streams may not be saved at all, and live streams that are not saved as a video do not count toward Partner Program watch hours. Keep your source files — they stay in your SubSub library.
