Why most coffee shop jazz streams go silent by lunchtime

01

Your PC has to stay on

A home stream dies with every Windows update, power cut or Wi-Fi drop — often right when cafés across another time zone switch it on for the morning rush. SubSub plays your playlist from our servers, so your computer can sleep.

02

OBS and VPS babysitting

Renting a VPS, running OBS without a GPU, restarting a crashed encoder before breakfast — that is a second job. Here you upload files and press start.

03

Copyright and monetization guesswork

Jazz standards are still under copyright, classic recordings belong to labels, and café jazz sold as royalty-free is often registered in Content ID. Mass-produced tracks over a stock image can also fail YouTube's reused-content review. Below we explain what is safe to stream and how café jazz channels actually earn.

HOW IT WORKS

Live in three steps, no software to install

1

Upload your files

Drop your audio and video into the SubSub media library, put them in order and turn on loop. Files live in our cloud, not on your computer.

2

Connect YouTube

Create a stream in YouTube Studio and paste its stream key into SubSub. The stream stays on your channel; SubSub only sends the video.

3

Press start

SubSub streams from our servers around the clock. Close the laptop — the stream keeps playing.

SETUP GUIDE

How to set up a jazz stream people leave on all day

What long-running coffee shop jazz channels have in common — and how to get there with SubSub.

Hours of music without a repeat

Upload at least 4–5 hours of tracks: a café or office plays the stream from opening to closing, and regulars notice repeats. Mix piano trio, soft sax, guitar and bossa nova so the mood stays warm without blending into one song. SubSub loops the playlist automatically.

A mood for every hour

Order the playlist like a day in a café: gentle piano in the morning, upbeat bossa nova at midday, slower ballads in the evening. Name the mood in the title — morning, work, rainy day — because that is exactly what listeners search for.

A looping visual and even loudness

A 10–30 second seamless loop — a spinning record, steam over a cup, leaf shadows moving across the table — keeps the stream alive; a static image works too. Keep loudness even, around −14 LUFS, so saxophone peaks do not jump over background chatter; export audio at 192 kbps or higher; 1080p video is plenty.

Music you have rights to

Record your own band, commission tracks with a full rights transfer, or use a library whose license explicitly covers 24/7 YouTube live streaming and monetization. A jazz standard needs a license for the composition even when you record it yourself, and many royalty-free and AI music services exclude live streams, so read the license and keep proof in case of a claim.

COPYRIGHT

What you can stream

YouTube checks every stream with Content ID. Classic jazz recordings belong to labels, most standards are still under copyright as compositions, and much of the café jazz sold as royalty-free is registered there too. A claimed track can cut your stream.

  • Your own original music or commissioned tracks with full rights
  • Music libraries licensed for YouTube live and allowlisted for your channel
  • Not allowed: tracks ripped from other jazz streams, albums by famous artists, film and game soundtracks
MONETIZATION

How a jazz stream earns

Once your channel is in the YouTube Partner Program:

  • Ads — turn on mid-roll breaks
  • Super Chat and memberships — from 500 subscribers
  • Your links — full albums, background music licenses for cafés and shops, Patreon

FAQ

Is a 24/7 jazz music stream allowed on YouTube?

Yes. YouTube sets no maximum length for live streams, and jazz and coffee shop streams stay live for months. The usual rules apply: a verified channel with no live streaming restrictions in the past 90 days, honest titles and thumbnails, and only music you have rights to.

Can I stream pre-recorded jazz as a live stream?

Yes. SubSub sends your uploaded playlist to YouTube through a regular stream key, exactly like a streaming encoder. You do not need to be online, run OBS or keep a computer on during the broadcast.

Can I stream my own covers of jazz standards?

Only with care. Most standards are still under copyright as compositions even if you recorded the performance yourself, and publishers can claim them. Original compositions or tracks licensed for live streaming are the safe choice.

Can I monetize a 24/7 jazz stream?

Yes, once your channel is in the YouTube Partner Program: ads, Super Chat, Super Stickers and memberships. YouTube can limit monetization for repetitive or reused content, such as mass-produced tracks over a stock image, so build the stream on your own or properly licensed music and give it a look of its own.

Can a café play my YouTube jazz stream?

Playing YouTube in a business is a public performance, and YouTube's terms cover personal use only. If café owners ask, point them to a licensed background music service — or offer them a direct license to your own music.

Do I need OBS, a VPS or a computer that stays on?

No. You upload files to SubSub once, and our servers send the stream to YouTube. Your computer can be off the whole time.

How much does a 24/7 stream cost?

You pay only for streaming time — $0.0087 per hour in base quality (720p, 30 fps). A full month nonstop is about $6.26. New accounts get $0.50 in free credits, about 57 hours on air, no credit card required.

Why can’t I go live right after setting up my channel?

YouTube can take up to 24 hours to enable live streaming the first time. Turn it on in YouTube Studio a day before you plan to launch.

Can I run several 24/7 streams at once?

Yes. Each stream runs on its own and is billed by its own streaming hours, so you can run different radios on different channels.

Does SubSub check my music for copyright?

No. SubSub does not scan your files. YouTube checks every live stream with Content ID on its side: if it finds a track you do not own, YouTube can mute or stop the stream and strike your channel. Use only music you own or license.

Will YouTube save my 24/7 stream as a video?

Streams up to 12 hours are archived on your channel. Longer streams may not be saved at all, and live streams that are not saved as a video do not count toward Partner Program watch hours. Keep your source files — they stay in your SubSub library.

Your café jazz stream can be live tonight.

Your free credit covers about 57 hours on air. No credit card, no OBS, no computer left running.
