Why most pet TV streams go dark while the owners are at work

01

Your PC has to stay on

A home stream dies with every Windows update, power cut or Wi-Fi drop — usually in the middle of the workday, when a cat or dog is home alone and watching. SubSub plays your playlist from our servers, so your computer can sleep.

02

OBS and VPS babysitting

Renting a VPS, running OBS without a GPU, restarting a crashed encoder while pet owners wonder why the screen went black — that is a second job. Here you upload files and press start.

03

Copyright and monetization guesswork

Nature footage taken from other channels or documentaries gets claimed fast, and many stock clip licenses do not cover 24/7 live streaming. A single stock loop on repeat can also fail YouTube's reused-content review. Below we explain what is safe to stream and how pet TV channels actually earn.

HOW IT WORKS

Live in three steps, no software to install

1

Upload your files

Drop your audio and video into the SubSub media library, put them in order and turn on loop. Files live in our cloud, not on your computer.

2

Connect YouTube

Create a stream in YouTube Studio and paste its stream key into SubSub. The stream stays on your channel; SubSub only sends the video.

3

Press start

SubSub streams from our servers around the clock. Close the laptop — the stream keeps playing.

SETUP GUIDE

How to set up a pet TV stream animals actually watch

What long-running cat and dog TV channels have in common — and how to get there with SubSub.

Movement that catches the eye

Cats and dogs react to motion more than to detail: fish gliding across the frame, birds at a feeder, squirrels, a mouse on the floor. Shoot from a low, steady angle, keep the background calm and let animals cross the whole screen. Bright blues and yellows read best to pet eyes.

Hours of footage without a repeat

Upload at least 4–5 hours of video so a pet home alone for a workday does not see the same scene twice. Alternate active scenes with calm ones — a pond, a slow aquarium — so the stream keeps them busy without overexciting them. SubSub loops the playlist automatically.

Gentle sound and steady loudness

Use natural sounds — water, birdsong — or soft music under them, and avoid barking, meowing, doorbells and sudden bangs that can make pets anxious. Keep loudness even, around −16 LUFS, export audio at 192 kbps or higher; 1080p video is plenty.

Footage and music you have rights to

Film your own scenes at a pond, feeder or aquarium, commission footage with a full rights transfer, or use a stock library whose license explicitly covers 24/7 YouTube live streaming and monetization. Check the music the same way, and keep proof in case of a claim.

What you can stream

YouTube checks every stream with Content ID, and both nature footage and relaxing music are registered there. A claimed clip or track can cut your stream.

  • Your own footage of fish, birds and wildlife, or commissioned videos with full rights
  • Stock footage and music libraries licensed for YouTube live and allowlisted for your channel
  • Not allowed: clips ripped from other pet TV channels, nature documentaries and TV shows, commercial music
MONETIZATION

How a pet TV stream earns

Once your channel is in the YouTube Partner Program:

  • Ads — turn on mid-roll breaks
  • Super Chat and memberships — from 500 subscribers
  • Your links — affiliate pet toys, pet cameras and treats, longer ad-free videos, Patreon

FAQ

Is a 24/7 pet TV stream allowed on YouTube?

Yes. YouTube sets no maximum length for live streams, and cat and dog TV streams stay live for months. The usual rules apply: a verified channel with no live streaming restrictions in the past 90 days, honest titles and thumbnails, and only footage and music you have rights to.

Can I stream pre-recorded videos as a live stream?

Yes. SubSub sends your uploaded playlist to YouTube through a regular stream key, exactly like a streaming encoder. You do not need to be online, run OBS or keep a computer on during the broadcast.

Should I mark a pet TV stream as made for kids?

Usually no. Content for pets and their owners is not made for kids by default, but set the audience honestly: a stream with cartoon characters or nursery rhymes aimed at children may need to be marked as made for kids, which turns off live chat and personalized ads.

Can I monetize a 24/7 pet TV stream?

Yes, once your channel is in the YouTube Partner Program: ads, Super Chat, Super Stickers and memberships. YouTube can limit monetization for repetitive or reused content, such as one stock clip on endless repeat, so build the stream on your own or properly licensed footage and vary the scenes.

How long should my pet TV playlist be?

At least 4–5 hours. SubSub loops the playlist automatically, and the longer it is, the less likely a pet left alone for the day is to see the same scene twice.

Do I need OBS, a VPS or a computer that stays on?

No. You upload files to SubSub once, and our servers send the stream to YouTube. Your computer can be off the whole time.

How much does a 24/7 stream cost?

You pay only for streaming time — $0.0087 per hour in base quality (720p, 30 fps). A full month nonstop is about $6.26. New accounts get $0.50 in free credits, about 57 hours on air, no credit card required.

Why can’t I go live right after setting up my channel?

YouTube can take up to 24 hours to enable live streaming the first time. Turn it on in YouTube Studio a day before you plan to launch.

Can I run several 24/7 streams at once?

Yes. Each stream runs on its own and is billed by its own streaming hours, so you can run different radios on different channels.

Does SubSub check my music for copyright?

No. SubSub does not scan your files. YouTube checks every live stream with Content ID on its side: if it finds a track you do not own, YouTube can mute or stop the stream and strike your channel. Use only music you own or license.

Will YouTube save my 24/7 stream as a video?

Streams up to 12 hours are archived on your channel. Longer streams may not be saved at all, and live streams that are not saved as a video do not count toward Partner Program watch hours. Keep your source files — they stay in your SubSub library.

Your pet TV stream can be live tonight.

Your free credit covers about 57 hours on air. No credit card, no OBS, no computer left running.
